| Name: | Sakura Harcourt |
|---|
-----
Character: Harcourt, Sakura (Haruno, Sakura)
Character Age: 17
Portrayed By: Lindy Booth, photoshopped with pink hair/green eyes.
Race/Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Canon Power(s): The typical shinobi set, though she excels particularly in medical jutsu dna chakra manipulation. Sakura's strength, aside from the massive physical aspect that she learns to weild under Tsunade, also lies in her intelligence; while no genius, she has a sharp mind and is capable of solving complex problems rather quickly.
Modified Power: She blanks out for moments or even hours at a time whenever her emotions – specifically anger -- get the better of her. Her body is then controlled by her subconcious. In this state she tends to ignore the natural physical limits of her body and enter a beserker state. Though because she doesn't become stronger, just crazier, her body suffers the damage once she reverts back into her correct mental state.
---
Association: Shinra Incorporated
History: Sakura lived the life of the model daughter, and model student, for as long as she possibly could. Her parents weren’t exactly poor but they were never well off, a fact that set her apart from many of the other children while she was attending public schools. Coupled to that, genetics had given her a rather large and unflattering forehead, and so she was the subject of much ridicule as a child. Rather than stand up for herself, however, she simply drew into herself and focused all of her efforts and energies on academics.
She might have continued on this way, bottling up her hurt feelings while around other people and unleashing them all in a flood of teenage angst in her diary, had she not been rather forcibly taken under another girl’s wing when she was in middle school. Feeling more awkward due to just beginning the strange emotional upheaval of puberty, Sakura was not in her best form when she first met who would become her best friend.
Being bullied for being smart and storing all her extra brains in her “overhead compartment” was something Sakura had simply gotten used to. However, this time, she snapped. She doesn’t really remember what happened, as it was the first of what she would come to know as her black-outs, but she does know that when the haze cleared one girl had to be taken to the hospital and there were dents in the lockers across the hall. Frightened because she didn’t believe that she could have done that, but not knowing how to argue her case when she couldn’t remember what had happened, Sakura simply drew into herself and allowed the teacher to haul her off for a disciplinary hearing.
Her parents couldn’t believe it, and she was punished strongly at school and home. Almost worse than the bullying, now the other students actively feared her, save for one. Apparently, a girl had watched the entire thing, and where Sakura’s memory ended, she filled in all the details while they were in ISS together. Sakura was appauled and terribly ashamed, but much to her surprise, the other girl said they’d gotten what was coming. And that she thought, from the looks of things, it was about time Sakura stood up for herself.
And that she wanted to be her friend.
Once the close supervision at school ended, though the punishment wasn’t nearly over at home, Sakura found she had several classes in common with her new friend. Where no one else would sit by her, the other girl would push her desk directly adjacent to Sakura’s during work times, and they would chatter happily while getting their assignments done quickly and accurately. In exchange for help on homework, her friend taught Sakura how to dress and do her hair, and most importantly, not to be ashamed of being smart or how she looked. As long as Sakura let them, she said, they would always find something about her to dislike, simply because she let them know it bother her.
Just before they were slated to enter HS together, her friend was in a fatal car accident. Devastated, Sakura might have pulled into herself again, but she felt like that would somehow be betraying her friend. Instead, she gathered what she could of her confidence and vowed to do her best. The lack of her friend as a stabilizing influence, however, allowed Sakura to give in to temper more often than she would have, and her black-outs became more frequent through HS.
Concerned for her, because she was as bright as ever and a well-behaved girl otherwise, her parents tried putting Sakura through counseling. Nothing seemed to help, however – and she threw the sofa on top of the Freudian psychologist who tried to hypnotize her. The best anyone could come up with was that because she supressed her emotions for so long, she had a build-up of anger in her subconscious that, when triggered, prompted a huge release of adrenaline and a berserker state of mind.
To that end, Sakura has several relaxation techniques she’s supposed to practice when she begins to get angry, though they don’t always help. Though she hasn’t told her parents, she suspects that her “condition” is more than just a psychological one – and she’s trying to be proactive about it. Using the money her parents set aside for her college fund, she set out with a bright smile directly to New Amsterdam, with promises to write.
